Wine region of Eger
The Eger wine region is one of Hungary’s main historical wine region, located in northeast of Hungary, in Heves county, on the southern, lower parts of Bükk mountain.
Its fame is thanked to the Egri Bikavér (Bull’s Blood), which has not just a specially high quality but also a misterious name.
At this 6000 hectares big wine region wide range of traditional white wines are offered as well, like Egri Leányka and Egri Olaszrizling.
Eger has been a religious centre for thausand years. The bishopric, the archdiocese and the order of monks had a significant role in developing grape growing.
Thanks to the wines, the famous castle, the medical water, the historical monuments, the fabulous baroque city –centre, year by year thousands of tourists come to visit Eger, one of the most popular city of Hungary.
